Hatfield College Junior Common room CIO
Hatfield JCR is the heart of undergraduate life at Hatfield College—a welcoming, student-led community that represents, supports, and connects all Hatfield undergraduates. From hosting some of the most anticipated social events of the year to advocating for student welfare and academic interests, the JCR works to ensure every member feels heard, included, and able to make the most of their time at Durham.
Hatfield JCR operates as an independent charity, meaning it is a legally recognised organisation with its own governance, responsibilities, and accountability separate from the College and University. This status ensures that the JCR is run by students, for students, with a clear duty to act in the best interests of its members. As a charity, it is committed to principles of transparency, responsible financial management, and public benefit, ensuring that all activities—from events and societies to welfare support—are delivered in a way that is ethical, inclusive, and focused on enhancing the student experience.
Standing orders
Hatfield JCR Standing Orders set out the rules and procedures that guide how the JCR operates. They ensure meetings are conducted fairly and transparently, outlining how decisions are made, how debates are structured, and how members can participate effectively in JCR governance.
