Non-Executive Officers

Alongside the Executive Committee, a large number of Non-Executive Officers are appointed throughout the year to various positions-with responsibilities ranging from JCR Welfare to planning the annual Lion in Winter Ball. In addition to reporting to the JCR at General Meetings, they sit on a number of the JCR's and college's committees.

Applications generally consist of submiting a manifesto by the published deadline, though some positions require an interview with relevant members of the Exec and College Officers. The criteria and appointment procedures for each of these positions are listed in the standing orders. Watch the JCR Email for opening positions!

Appointed in Michaelmas Term

Assistant Treasurers

Assistant treasurers work alongside the JCR Treasurer to make sure that the JCR finances are in order, including funding for JCR clubcs, societies and events.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and an interview with the JCR Treasurer.

Disabilities Representative

The Disabilities Representative liaises with the DSU to inform them on ways to give students with disabilities more support, and works with Team Welfare to promote awareness about disabilities in college.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto.

Durham Students' Union (DSU) Representatives

DSU Representatives assist the Communities Officer in representing Hatfield students at meetings of the DSU Council and other meetings of the DSU where necessary.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and an interview with the Communities Officer.

Food Representatives

Food Representatives represent the views of the JCR on the Catering Working Group and report progress at JCR Meetings. There are specific vegetarian, sport and first year representatives.

Graduands' Dinner Chair

The Graduands' Dinner Chair is responsible for organising the annual Graduands' Dinner, which is held each year in Easter term.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and selection by the Senior Man, Treasurer and Social Secretary.

Hatfield Nepal Project Chair

The Hatfield Nepal Project Chair is responsible for organising the annual Hatfield Nepal Project. The Chair may convene an event committee to assist in organising the project. 

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview with the Senior Man and outgoing Nepal Project Chair.

Junior Events (Ents) Representatives

The Junior Ents Representatives work alongside the Social Secretary and the Senior Ents Reps to plan events like Hatfield Day, Michaelmas Ball and smaller-scale events in the bar.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto.

Junior Welfare Representatives

The Junior Welfare Representatives work with the Welfare Officer and Assistant Welfare Officer, as well as the Senior Welfare Representatives, to organise and run campaigns within college, and to reaise awareness of available assistance and provision of welfare supplies in the JCR.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto.

Current Reps: Dominic Berry (Treasurer and Supplies), Charlotte Way, Mathilde Francois, Ciara McEvoy (Marketing & Social Media), James Simpson, Louise Tilly, Lucy Irving, Martha Payne (Junior Campaigns), Charlotte Robson (Secretary), Georgina Burford-Taylor (Social Secretary), Imogen Barnard (Livers Abroad Rep), Laura Swinton, Rory Flynn (Tea and Toast Rep)

LGBTQ+ Representatives

The LGBTQ+ Representatives liaise with the LGBTA and DSU LGBT Committee, and work to promote LGBT events in college. Additionally, they work alongside the Welfare Team to promote awareness.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto.

Mature Students' Representative

The Mature Students' Representative represents interests of Mature Students to the JCR and liaises with the Durham University Mature Students Association (DUMSA) and Middle Common Room (MCR). 

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview by the Senior Man, Communities Officer, Welfare Officer and Senior Tutor

 

Appointed in Easter Term

Assistant Welfare Officer

The Assistant Welfare Officer co-runs Team Welfare alongside the Welfare OfficerIn this role, they attend wekly meetings with the College Officers, liasise with welfare networks across the college and university, and promote welfare policies and campaigns within the JCR. The Assistant Welfare Officer is automatically a member of the Open Day Rep and Freshers' Rep teams.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview with the outgoing and incoming Welfare OfficersCandidates must have attended a Nightline Training Weekend prior to submission of a manifesto.

Durham University Athletic Union (DUAU) Representatives

DUAU Representatives liaise with the DUAU and the College Sport Manager on all matters that relate to Hatfield sports clubs, including the organisation of the annual College Festival of Sport and Hatfield-Castle Challenge. DUAU Reps provide reports at JCR Meetings and the Hatfield College Meeting.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview with the Vice President Discipline.

Fashion Show Chair

The Fashion Show Chair is responsible for organising the annual Hatfield College Charity Fashion Show (HCCFS), which takes place each year in Epiphany term. The Fashion Show Chair and Treasurer may convene a Fashion Show Committee to assist in the organisation of the event.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and selection by a committee of the Master, College Bursar, Senior Man, JCR Treasurer, Social Secretary and outgoing Fashion Show Chair.

Fashion Show Treasurer

The Fashion Show Treasurer is responsible for the finances of the annual Hatfield College Charity Fashion Show (HCCFS), which takes place each year in Epiphany term. The Fashion Show Chair and Treasurer may convene a Fashion Show Committee to assist in the organisation of the event.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and selection by a committee of the Master, College Bursar, Senior Man, JCR Treasurer, Social Secretary and outgoing Fashion Show Char.

Freshers' Representatives

A large team of Freshers’ Reps assist the Senior Freshers’ Reps to ensure the success of Freshers’ Week, and work throughout the week as scheduled to run events.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and selection by the Exec and Senior Freps. 

Gym Representatives

Gym Reps work to maintain the gym facilities alongside the Facilities Officer and ensure the safety of both college gyms.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview with the Facilities Officer.

Hatfield Sessions Chair

The Hatfield Sessions Chair is responsible for organising the annual Hatfield Sessions, which is held each year in Michaelmas term. They may convene an event committee to assist in the organisation of the event.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview by the Senior Man, JCR Treasurer and the outgoing event Chair.

Lion in Winter Ball Chair

The Lion in Winter Ball Chair is responsible for organising the annual Lion in Winter Ball, which is held each year in Epiphany term. The Ball Chair and Treasurer may convene a Ball Committee to assist in the organisation of the event.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and selection by a committee of the Master, College Bursar, Senior Man, Social Secretary, the outgoing Social Secretary and outgoing Ball Chair.

Lion in Winter Ball Treasurer

The Lion in Winter Ball Treasurer is responsible for finances of the annual Lion in Winter Ball, which is held each year in Epiphany term. The Ball Chair and Treasurer may convene a Ball Committee to assist in the organisaiton of the event.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and selection by a committee of the Master, College Bursar, Senior Man, Social Secretary and the outoging Social Secretary. The JCR Treasurer and Outgoing Ball Treasurer will be present for interviews.

Lumley Ball Chair

The Lumley Ball Chair is responsible for organising the annual Lumley Castle Ball, which is held each year in Michaelmas term. They may convene a Ball committee to assist in the organisation of the event.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview by the Senior Man, Vice President (Discipline), JCR Treasurer, Social Secretary and the outgoing Ball Chair.

Open Day Representatives

A large team of Open Day Reps assist the Senior Open Day Representatives to look after candidates and organise their departmental visits and programming in college.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto.  

Senior Environment Officers

Senior Environment Officers work to promote environmental initiatives in college and work alongside University Greenspace to make Hatfield as environmentally sustainable as possible. Environment Reps provide a report to JCR Meetings and prepare a report for the Senior Man to give at the Hatfield College Meeting.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview with the Livers-Out Representative and the outgoing Environment Reps

Senior Events (Ents) Representatives

Senior Ents Reps assist the Social Secretary to put events on in college, including the annual Hatfield Day and a number of smaller events such as bar quizzes and open mic nights.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview with the Social Secretary.

Senior Freshers' Representatives

The Senior Freshers’ Representatives are jointly responsible for organising Freshers’ Week, and work closely with the Exec to appoint a team of Freshers’ Reps and plan events.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview with various members of the Exec and the Senior Tutor.

Senior International Representative

The Senior International Representative works closely with the Exec and the Communities Officer to plan International Freshers and represent the views International Students to the JCR. They work with the Welfare Officer to provide student support throughout the year, and organise special formals alongside the JCR Secretary.

This position is appointed subject ot submission of a manifesto and interview with various members of the Exec and the Senior Tutor.

Senior Open Day Representative

The Senior Open Day Reps work closely with the Exec and College Officers to plan the college’s annual Post Offer Visit Days. They work with an appointed team of Open Day Representatives to coordinate departmental visits and events throughout the Open Days.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview with various members of the Exec and the Senior Tutor.

Senior Welfare Representatives

The Senior Welfare Reps assist the Welfare Officer and Assistant Welfare Officer to run welfare campaigns and provide weekly drop-in hours. Senior Welfare Reps also report to each JCR Meeting.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview with the Welfare Officer and Assistant Welfare Officer. Candidates must also have attended a Nightline Training Weekend prior to submission of a manifesto.

Tech Manager

The Tech Manager assists the Facilities Officer in maintaining and improving the technical facilities in college, principally the computer room, IT facilities and PA equipment, as well as in teching events. Additionally, they work with the JCR Secretary to maintain the college website.

This position is appointed subject to submission of a manifesto and interview with the Facilities Officer.
